During the lockdowns of 2020, Paul created the Reading Greek Tragedy Online series in collaboration with Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies. What started as a way to create community (and to explore what ancient stories had to say about the present time) became a 40-week epic adventure that brought together hundreds of performers and academics from around the world. The series incorporated performances of every extant tragedy, along with episodes dedicated to comedy, epic poetry and Roman plays. The series remains freely available online and is now part of syllabuses in several US universities.
Paul was an Associate of Hellenic Studies at the CHS from 2020 to 2023, and he continues to work closely with many people there. Since the series, he has worked with numerous partners who were involved in it to develop projects in the UK, USA and Greece. This includes an ambitious project in Illinois, staging public readings of tragedies with communities. Further international collaborations are coming soon, including full-scale productions of tragedy and a new adaptation of Iliad Book 6.
Paul created and runs the Greek Theatre Program for the British American Drama Academy - an incredible summer course which combines theory and practice, working closely with leading theatre practitioners and academics in the UK and Greece.
His work has been supported by the Society of Classical Studies and Oxford University’s Archive of Performances of Greek and Roman Drama. He has led on workshops on Greek tragedy in universities across the UK and USA, including the University of Oxford, UT Austin, Wellesley College, Harvard, Wesleyan, Princeton, Bryn Mawr, Brandeis and Boise State.
